Jodhi May became the youngest ever recipient of the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, aged 12.

Jodhi who lived in Dalston at the time, won one of the movie industry’s top prizes for her performance in A World Apart, which is about a power struggle in Latin America during the 60s.

She shared the award with her co-stars Barbara Hershey and Linda Musvi.

It was her first film role after taking up acting classes just 20 months before at the Anna Scher theatre school in Islington.

Jodie, who appeared in the season 5 premiere of the HBO series Game of Thrones in 2015, said at the time: “I’m not thinking about my next role. I’m going back to school.

Jodhi’s acting tutor Anna Scher said: “It’s a wonderful achievement by Jodhi. She is a very talented girl. The best thing is that she is very modest and won’t allow this sort of success to change her, even though offers of work are flooding in.”
