Hackney New School pupils were handed an award by Dame Barbara Windsor for their volunteering work collecting clothes and books for refugees and setting up a food bank.
They were among volunteers across the capital who received praise from mayor of London Sadiq Khan for the work they do to make the city a better place.
The “compassionate neighbours” team at St Joseph’s Hospice were also honoured for their work reaching out to vulnerable elderly people, along with Emma Martin from the Hackney Volunteer Centre.
