Dele Alli looked to have fired Spurs to victory at Wembley, only for Chris Wood to net stoppage-time equaliser for Clarets

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was left to rue his side’s lapse in concentration after conceding a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at home to Burnley in the Premier League.

After Dele Alli had opened the scoring in the 49th minute, Spurs looked to be on their way to a first Premier League win at their temporary home at Wembley.

However, Chris Wood netted for the Clarets in stoppage-time to extend the north Londoners’ wait for a first home triumph of the season.

It leaves Pochettino with much to mull over during the upcoming international break, and the Tottenham boss was frustrated with his side’s inability to hold to all three points.

“We’re disappointed because we showed a lack of concentration at the end,” said the Argentinean.

“It was difficult because they were tough and it was a tough game. When you are able to score and have the chances to win the game, you cannot show that lack of concentration at the end.

“We conceded a goal with five or six players behind the ball. We need to take the responsibility and that was our fault.”

The result will also increase the speculation that Spurs are in the midst of a hoodoo at Wembley, having only won just twice in 12 outings at the national stadium since it was rebuilt.

For the second week in succession, the north Londoners were left disappointed after a late goal, having also conceded in the closing moments during the loss against Chelsea last Sunday.

Pochettino was again questioned about the so-called ‘curse’ after the draw with Burnley, but was again swift to deny it.

“If some people are thinking about that, it needs to stop. We have the responsibility to do better, try to win and the way we conceded the goal was because we’re at Wembley,” added the 45-year-old.

“We need to make Wembley our home and perform the same way as we did last season at White Hart Lane.

“We built a very comfortable place there, but it’s only a matter of time before the players feel that here.”

Spurs return to action following the international break on September 9 when they make the trip to Ronald Koeman’s Everton.
