The Tower Theatre Company will open doors to its brand new fringe theatre in Stoke Newington on September 26 – after 15 years spent looking for a premises.

Women-only gym Suntone in Northwold Road which shut four years ago, has been converted into a fully equipped theatre, complete with rehearsal rooms, box office, wardrobe and props storage.

Now the theatre company which has been going for 85 years, is launching its opening season and inaugural production, Shakespeare’s Henry V.

The group lost its old theatre in Islington after 50 years, due to an error in signing a new lease and has been searching for a new home ever since. Alongside professional builders, members of the company have been working tirelessly as volunteers to convert the building since it was pinpointed earlier this year.

Trustee Alexander Knapp said: “This is a huge milestone for the Tower and heartfelt thanks go out to every single person who has supported the project and helped us reach this momentous point.”
