The amateur dramatics group’s new theatre will be open to the public in September this year.

The Tower Theatre Company is settling into its new premises on Northwold Road in Stoke Newington, formerly the site of the Sunstone House women’s-only gym before it closed after announcing its insolvency in 2014.

The theatre company successfully applied for a planning application to renovate the building last year, overcoming objections to another licensed venue in the area.

Although some building work is yet to be completed, it is set to put on its first production in the new venue in September this year. The Tower Theatre Company held an opening night on 4 June, inviting members of the public and local businesses to view the progress of the project.

“Stoke Newington is a lively neighbourhood with an active literary society. People are very keen in making their area a lively place,” said Sarah Ley, who is on the board of trustees at the company which puts on productions across London. “We’re excited about having everyone under one roof again.”
