Rail commuters suffered delays into and out of Liverpool Street Station earlier today (Wednesday) after problems with overhead lines just outside Hackney Downs Station.
A Spokesman for Network Rail, which owns and operates Britain’s rail infrastructure, said: “There was a problem with a piece of the overhead line. There was a flash and a bang as the equipment failed and there was some smoke.
“We made a temporary repair and will carry out a full repair overnight.
“It caused delays this morning, and although trains were running again by 10.15am, it took a while for service to get back normal.”
