A teenage boy died after falling from the sixth floor of a block of flats on Friday.

Michael Adu-Boahen, 15, died after plunging from a balcony at Rogate House on the Nightingdale Estate in Muir Road, Lower Clapton, where he lived with his family, at about 7.45pm.

It is unclear how or why he came to fall from the flats but police are not treating the death as suspicious at this stage. However, detectives were this week appealing for information in order to build up a picture of the last hours of Michael’s life.

It is understood that he was friends with Derek Boateng who was fatally stabbed on board a Highbury bus in April. The pair were both former pupils of The Petchey Academy in Shacklewell Lane, Hackney.

The community has been left reeling from Michael’s death and a number of floral tributes have been left at the scene.

Friend Mina left a tribute saying: “My beautiful Michael. It hurts deep inside that I’ve lost such a good friend. I’ll never forget all the memories we had together. I will truly miss you.”

A poem addressed to a “special brother” said: “You meant so much in every single way and you’re remembered with much love every single day.”

Another tribute from Tamesha Opwurta said: “Have fun in heaven. I’m going to miss the way you make me laugh in the morning.”

Police are investigating the cause of death and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Sgt Paul Ridley, of Hackney CID who is leading the enquiry, said: “I would urge anyone who saw Michael falling from the building to contact me as a priority. It is vital that I build a picture of the last hours of Michael’s life.

“I would also like to speak with anyone who made contact with him on Friday. I am keeping an open mind as to the reasons behind this young man’s tragic death.”
