Two people had to be pulled from a van after it flipped over on to its side when its brakes failed as it approached a busy Hackney roundabout earlier today (Tuesday).

The incident happened at about 11.50am, near Lea Bridge roundabout on Lower Clapton Road.

A Hackney Police spokeswoman told the Gazette a white transit van was the only vehicle involved in the incident, and added: “Apparently, its brakes failed and the driver swerved to avoid hitting the car in front, which caused the van to overturn. Two people were extracted, but they didn’t seek medical help.”

The London Ambulance Service confirmed an ambulance crew was sent to the scene, but a spokeswoman said nobody required medical treatment.

Lower Clapton Road was partially blocked by the van, with traffic still backed up at the roundabout more than two hours later as police supervised the van’s removal.
