People exercised with elastic resistant bands as they sat on chairs and listened to music at the Wayside Community Centre launch of a drop in service for the elderly, disabled and those who are suffering from poverty, sickness or distress.
The Wayside Community Centre will run Caribbean quadrille dance, aerobics sessions and healthy living workshops during sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at a new centre in Lower Clapton Road.
The idea is to improve participants’ health and quality and give them a sense of purpose, and Sister Jean John who runs the club said anyone who feels the need for friendship and companionship is welcome to come along and socialise with other like-minded people.
“Wayside has a long history in Hackney and was born out of a perceived deficiency in the standard of community care services available to those who are elderly, disabled or who are suffering from poverty, sickness or distress,” she said.
The sessions take place between 11.00am to 3.00pm at 69 Lower Clapton Road.
