A Well Street cafe will tonight host a community event one year on from the Grenfell Tower fire in support of the survivors.

NuDawn will be showcasing an exhibition featuring work from artists associated with the Grenfell cause, as well as from survivors themselves. Many will also be at the cafe for the get together.

The night is in aid of the Poetry 4 Grenfell project, which has helped people from the area deal with the aftermath of the fire through poetry, dance and film. It has been fundraising on Spacehive to finance a bi-lingual book sharing the stories of local people.

NuDawn owner Kevin Jones said: “We’re asking all Hackney residents from council housing, social housing or private housing to please come along and bring a small financial contribution to aid this great project one year on from the disaster.”

“The Eyesore”, an arresting painting by Damel Carayol, who lost his niece in the fire, will also be on display. Kevin is hoping to drum up support to have the painting tour each London borough.

The event starts at 6.30pm. To donate to Poetry 4 Grenfell, click here.
