Young people united to walk, run, cycle and row a collective 1,033km around Well Street Common to raise funds for youth charity Hackney Quest in the “Hackney1000”.
The event raised £700 for the cause, headquartered in nearby Well Street, which runs activities to engage young people.
Cycling and rowing machines were provided by Better leisure centres, and sports groups provided introductory football and rugby sessions. Jay Ajayi, from Hackney – who now plays in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins – made an appearance and spoke about inspiring young people to play American football. A bake-off was judged by mayor of Hackney Phil Glanville and the speaker Soraya Adejare.
Hackney Quest’s director Collette Allen said: “The event was a huge success, with a constant stream of people attending helping not only meet the target of 1000km but beat it.”
