RESIDENTS are being asked what matters most to them in Hackney so the council has an idea of the issues its scrutiny panels should put under the microscope and investigate in future.

The town hall scrutiny commissions are made up of councillors who work across party lines reviewing and monitoring the delivery of council services, crime prevention, traffic, health or education as well as helping to develop better policies and improve performance.

They can also hold the council and outside agencies, including the police and health service, to account.

The scrutiny commissions already have enough topics to keep them busy right up until June, but want to know which issues residents and businesses consider most important and wish to be investigated during the last six months of 2009.

People can take part in the anonymous survey by visiting the town hall website at www.hackneygov.uk/scrutiny, or email scrutiny@hackneygov.uk or phone 020 8356 3341.
