MP Diane Abbott wants to hear from people in Hackney affected by the riots as to why they think the violence broke out, to make sure it never happens again.
“David Cameron’s analysis puts the riots down to “criminality” pure and simple, and stops there,” said the MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington and Shadow Health Minister.
“It says that to explain is to excuse.
“But I want to talk with those affected by the riots, and hear their views on how this happened,” she added.
“We must ask, without fear or hesitation, why and how this happened. Because we must be sure, with people’s livelihoods at stake in a fragile economy, that this does not happen again.’
She praised the people of Hackney for their response to the “violence, disorder and criminality,” and said it is heartening the community is rebuilding and pulling together.

A discussion about the riots organised by the borough’s Labour party takes places next Wednesday September 21 in Stamford Hill Library from 7pm to 9pm.
