The world’s smallest disco will pop up in Stoke Newington this weekend.
Local entrepreneurs Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayre, who founded the alternative 1970s rockband Cornershop, are celebrating Record Store Day this Saturday with the quirky event.
The pair, who run music label Ample Play Records, will open the pop-up shop, serving as a disco and record store, at 256 Albion Road for this weekend only.
Hackney is no stranger to miniature nightclubs, after Miniscule of Sound opened in August 1998, and won a place in the Guinness World Records book.
The tiny venue, based in the changing room of then-disused outdoor swimming pool Hackney Lido in London Fields, had a capacity of just 14 people.
Cornershop first made their name in 1997 with the hit Brimful of Asha, based on the history of Indian cinema, which Fatboy Slim remixed in 2011.
Miniscule of Sound was pipped to the post for the accolade in 2011 by Liverpool’s Rumours, a “nightclub” based in a converted portaloo.
