The stories of refugees have been turned into a musical by youngsters at the Hackney Empire.

The theatre’s Artsitic Development Programme, now in its 17th year, has helped 40 teens aged 13 to 19 to produce No Place Like Home, which will be performed on Friday next week on the main stage.

The young actors, vocalists, dancers, musicians and writers auditioned for roles and have been given just 10 days to turn their ideas into reality with the help of Susie McKenna, the Empire’s executive creative producer.

There are an estimated 118,995 refugees living in the UK, but 65 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes.

Tickets for No Place Like Home can be bought at hackneyempire.co.uk for £7 or £5 for concessions. The show starts at 7.30pm.
