Hackney CC, newly formed following a merger between two local clubs, held Southgate to a draw in their debut Middlesex under-21 Development League fixture.

Stoke Newington CC and North London Muslims CC have come together to form the club, who will now be playing in the county-sponsored league to bridge the gap between colts and senior cricket.

Drawn in Group B against North London, North Middlesex, Stanmore and Winchmore Hill, Hackney lost the toss on their North Marsh, and then lost two early wickets.

Looking to be in trouble at 15-2, Hackney steadied the ship thanks to a fine innings from Russell Jahangar (27) and Suriyan Data (27).

Jahangar succumbed to a top edge after 20 overs and Data followed leg before from a skidder to leave Hackney on 79-4.

Irfan Mohammed (4) was next to go, bowled by an off break, but the runs flowed steadily after that, and Winston Williams (29) and Furquan Ahmed (15) pushed the score on to a respectable 160.

Southgate replied but struggled to make an early impact and some tight seam bowling from Mohammed and spin from Tom Ashman ensured that wickets fell at 10, 26, 28 and 30 to give Hackney hope of victory.

However, J Dangerfield (26) and P Lassman (31) put together a fine partnership and crept towards the target, before Shive (23) and A Sivaraj (26 not out) helped Southgate to a draw at 149-8.

Bardoli CC lost out by 18 runs to Quelinsborough CC in a friendly match at the Sylvestrian Leisure Centre on Sunday.

Having won the toss and decided to bat, the visitors quickly made their intentions clear, with Ismail hitting a formidable 75 from 80 balls to set the tone.

Salim (27) and Asif (54) then helped Quelinsborough to reach a commanding 123-1 after 20 overs, although a middle-order collapse briefly appeared to be on the cards.

Seru (0) and Taufiq Patel (0) were caught by Zubair Ghardwala and Imtiyaz Dawood respectively, with veterans Asif Hafesji and Abdul Samad Hafesji picking up the wickets, but it proved to be little more than a temporary blip for the visitors.

M Esat (26 not out) and H Mulla (21no) restored Quelinsborough’s confidence, helping them to post a commanding 227 from 40 overs.

In reply, Bardoli’s opening pair of Asif Hafesji (5) and Naeem Budi (51) gave their side a promising start, after Budi hit a pair of maximums from Quelinsborough’s left-arm bowler.

Imtiyaz Dawood’s knock of 27 increased the hosts’ hopes of victory and he formed an impressive partnership with Budi, realising 52 from eight overs.

But a middle-order wobble impeded Bardoli’s progress, after spin bowler M Esat took a series of quick wickets to leave them at an unsure 105-5.

Ghardwala (69) restored belief and also lost five balls in the surrounding forest after a series of sixes, leaving Bardoli with a target of 35 from the remaining six overs.

However, the quick fall of wickets meant Bardoli’s comeback came too late as they collapsed to 209 from 37 overs.
