Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens is looking for his table-topping side to get right back on track at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

O's saw their 10-game unbeaten start to the League Two season end after a home defeat against Newport County last weekend.

A Will Evans header and Omar Bogle penalty put the visitors 2-0 up, with Aaron Drinan hitting back midway through the second half.

And Wellens welcomed a clear week to prepare for their trip north, telling the club website: "To be honest, the schedule this year isn't as bad as what it's been in previous years, so it gives us an opportunity.

"We need to train properly and pick a team for Doncaster.

"Newport at home, everybody would've had us on a coupon, it doesn't matter.

"If you give penalties away, that's the third one we've given away similar this season, that can't happen, so we need to improve on that.

"They're happy with the win but we've probably lost it, they've not come here and won the game. They've obviously taken three points, but we've made massive errors to gift them the win."

Wellens admitted he might have got things wrong by not changing his side more in recent weeks, but he was pleased to see Irish striker Drinan open his account for the campaign after coming off the bench.

He added: "I'm going to probably blame myself because you're loath to change it. You play the same team, especially in midfield and forward areas, in recent weeks and probably should've freshened it up. I'll blame myself for that.

"Iddy [Idris El Mizouni] and Prats [Darren Pratley] have been doing a fantastic job, Moncs [George Moncur] as well. [But] from probably looking scintillating at times in the first half, we looked a bit leggy at times. So I maybe could've changed it before the game.

"I'm pleased for Aaron because he's been out a long time, missed pre-season, I thought he looked good when he come on the previous two or three games, he's off the mark."

Wellens also had praise for the club's supporters, with a near 7500-strong crowd at Brisbane Road, and believes his side will remain in contention if they stick to their guns.

"Different class. We deserved an equaliser, we probably should've won the game, but if they give us a performance like that, we've got 17 home games and if we play like that, we'll be in good stead," he added.

"They [Newport] just come here, desperate for a win, near the bottom of the table and they've tried to make the game ugly, wait for a set play and you understand what they're doing.

"But we need to not come away from what we're doing, just be patient, reset after 11 games and go again."
