The latest boxing news from Hackney
Hackney Boxing Academy’s Jermaine Williams will compete in the National Elite Championships at the University of East London this weekend.
Williams will take part in the quarter-finals on Friday and, if victorious, will reach the semi-finals at the same venue the following day, with the final at York Hall on Sunday.
The middleweight qualified for the national competition after winning the London Elite Championship title earlier this year.
Hackney-born super featherweight Jeffrey Ofori made it five straight wins as a pro with victory over Aleksandrs Birkenbergs at York Hall on Saturday.
The 28-year-old took the fight to his rival from the start, putting the Latvian on the back foot.
A switch-hitter, Ofori moved from orthodox to southpaw during the bout and had plenty of success with both styles.
The super featherweight was in complete control throughout the bout, before referee Mark Bates stopped the fight at York Hall in the third round.
