The latest boxing news from Hackney

Unbeaten Hackney welterweight Siar Ozgul earned his 14th straight win in the pro ranks with a points win over Innocent Anyanwu on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was making his return to the ring, having not fought since beating Danny Parsons in January 2017.

In Anyanwu, Ozgul was coming up against his toughest opponent since joining the pro ranks.

Both fighters were slamming home hard jabs and hooks to the body, but Ozgul used his height and reach advantage to keep his distance well.

That allowed Ozgul to attack his rival on the counter, before slipping out of the way of any reprisals.

The opening rounds of the bout were close, before Ozgul came on strong in the final two to pull away on the cards.

When the bout was over, Ozgul was announced as the winner of the fight, which took place on a join promotion between Johnney Roye and MTK at the Brentwood Centre.

• Hackney-born boxers Ohara Davies and Anthony Yarde will both be in at The O2 in London on June 23.

Both boxers will be taking part in supporting bouts on a Frank Warren bill headlined by Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO world middleweight title defence against Martin Murray.

Yarde will be returning to the ring for the first time since forcing Tony Averlant to quit after the seventh round at York Hall in February.

The light heavyweight is the current WBO European and Inter-Continental champion and is unbeaten in 15 fights since joining the pro ranks in 2015.

Davies, meanwhile, will be in action before appearing at The O2 in June, fighting in Leeds next month.

The super lightweight will appear on the undercard of a bill headlined by Lee Selby’s IBF world featherweight title defence against Josh Warrington at Elland Road on May 19.

The 26-year-old will take on France’s Christian Sebire, whose record contains 26 wins, 10 losses and one draw.

The bout will be Davies’ first since joining Warren’s stable of fighters after splitting from former promoters Matchroom.
