East Londoner to make first appearance in the ring since last July
Frank Warren promotes tomorrow night (Friday) at the York Hall, Bethnal Green with plenty of local boxers from east London on the bill.
The night will see the return of Kevin Mitchell, who tops the show when he faces Felix Lora from the Dominican Republic, who is now based in Spain.
This will be Mitchell’s first contest since July last year, when he enjoyed the best win of his career by defeating Manchester’s John Murray in Liverpool.
That victory ended Murray’s unbeaten record, and there is talk that if Mitchell wins tomorrow’s fight he could be in line to box Scotland’s Ricky Burns, the current holder of the WBO world lightweight title in his next contest.
Mitchell is trained by father-and-son duo Jimmy and Mark Tibbs at the TKO Gym in Canning Town.
The Tibbs have two other boxers on the bill, as former Repton BC Frank Buglioni, an unbeaten super-middleweight, faces Navenby’s Ryan Clark.
The Tibbs’ other prospect to feature on the night is Canning Town’s Billy Morgan, an unbeaten lightweight who will face a selected opponent.
Morgan has won all of his first five contests.
Another boxer out of the same Canning Town gym is West Ham’s Eddie Hussain, who had a winning debut last time out.
Hussain is set to fight a selected opponent at York Hall, and is trained by his father Mo, who was a former holder of the Commonwealth lightweight title.
Also on the bill, west London’s Steve O’Meara defends hid Southern Area light-middleweight title against an opponent yet to be selected at the time of going to press.
Elsewhere, north London’s Gary Corcoran is also on the bill as is Bradley Saunders, who makes his professional debut, having boxed for Great Britain and the Beijing Olympic Games back in 2008.
