LUCIEN Reid, from Haggerston, outpointed Adam Thomas from the Favershaw ABC, on a Repton Boys Club open tournament at Bethnal Green Technology College on Saturday.

It was a contest in which Reid came forward from the opening bell, but with Thomas having height and reach advantage , the Haggerston boxer had to take punches to land any of his own.

However, by rounds two and three of a three-round contest, Reid got in under the jab of his opponent and landed some good shots.

This was a good win by Reid against a much taller boy, and afterwards he said: "I found him very strong but managed to catch him with some good punches and I was pleased about how it worked out for me."

Another Hackney winner was Jamie Arlane, from Lion ABC in Pitfield Street, Hoxton, who outpointed Frank Sictorness, from Repton, by a majority decision.

In this three round-contest, not many punches were thrown or landed but the better ones came from Arlane, who said afterwards: "He was awkward to hit and he did catch me with a good punch which hurt me, but I was pleased with the way I boxed.
