The Camel are looking upwardly mobile in the North East London Cricket League after their thrilling five-run victory over Bloomsbury Royals in the only match of the weekend.

Having opted to bat first, the Camel lost early wickets but recovered from a sluggish start as Cyrus Mehta started the fightback with a knock of 27.

Following Mehta’s dismissal, it was the middle-order partnership between Dave Sendall (68) and veteran Guy Shennan (36) that hoisted the Camel towards a solid total.

Both batsmen played with grit and determination all round the wicket, helping their side to post 220-8 from their 40 overs.

In reply, the Royals were full of intent but lost a flurry of early wickets to the ever-dangerous Kit Caless.

A superb innings of 67 from Builbil Kadir got the Royals going and put the Camel’s total under threat.

At the other end, team-mate Ben Hayward was looking increasingly menacing.

His knock of 59 brought the Royals to within six runs of a second win of the season but Bill Burton claimed the crucial final wicket by rearranging Hayward’s stumps, to the delight of the Camels.

London Fields, who still lead the league table, face second-placed Daman this weekend in an eagerly-awaited encounter at Springfield Park.
