All change at Barkingside - Walther departs for Basildon, Goldstone takes over

The Cricklefield club have appointed Alex Goldstone as interim manager after Michael Walther decided to join Basildon United

Barkingside have announced a change of management with Michael Walther leaving to take over as joint-manager at Basildon United and Alex Goldstone taking over on an interim basis until the end of the season.

The Essex Senior League club confirmed the news this evening – hours ahead of their 7.45pm clash with Takeley.

Side chairman Jimmy Flanagan said: “It is with extreme sadness I announce Michael Walther has, with an extremely heavy heart, decided to take up Lee Connor’s offer of the role as manager of Basildon United starting following Barkingside’s game against Takeley.

“I’m gutted because I have a tremendous relationship and friendship with Michael, but I’m also delighted for him because it’s recognition of his standing in football despite some of the comments aimed at both of us recently.

“I have appointed Alex Goldstone as interim manager until the completion of this 2018/19 season. Alex has a wealth of experience with players at our level and higher and some have already played for us in our most recent two games.

“The club would therefore ask for no managerial applications until the completion of this season as we aim to progress up the table whilst obviously restoring some order to the club.

“I genuinely wish my friend Michael all the best in his new role as well as thanking him for his commitment and effort in always putting the best interests of Barkingside Football Club first.”

Tonight looks set to be Walther’s last game in charge of Side before he takes over at the Bees as joint-manager alongside former Basildon chairman Connor.
