Hackney Wick sealed a 3-1 victory against Hullbridge Sports to continue their strong finish to the campaign despite being relegated from the Essex Senior League.

A brace from Tony Cookey and another goal from Joel Appiah sealed the three points for the Wickers at the Old Spotted Dog.

Luke Hornsley netted the consolation for Hullbridge who are still desperately trying to get clear of the relegation zone.

Elsewhere, neighbours Clapton were edged out 3-2 by league leaders Great Wakering Rovers.

The Tons took an early lead through midfielder Steven Sardinha before Wakering went on to score three of their own.

A brace from Billy Johnson and a solo goal from Neil Richmond gave the hosts a 3-1 lead but with 10 minutes left in the match Nathan Cook pulled the score back to 3-2 and made it a nervous finish for the Rovers.

Manager Jonny Fowell tweeted after the match: “Last four games we have tried a few different things, some of it worked but a few things didn’t, but we tried it and the players did their best with no coaching and I’m proud of them.

“Game 39 and 39 different teams proud of the boys effort this season.

“On to next season.”
