London Senior Cup first round: Haringey Borough 4 Beckenham Town 1

Haringey Borough cruised into the second round of the London Senior Cup with a 4-1 win over Beckenham Town last night.

Tom Loizou’s men knew a home tie with a Leyton Orient XI lie in wait if they could make it through at Coles Park and three first-half goals sent them on their way.

The opener arrived from the penalty spot when Femi Akinwande scored from 12-yards against the Southern Counties East League Premier Division outfit.

Borough won another spot-kick soon after and Akinwande, previously of Colchester United, again dispatched with ease.

To their credit, Beckenham looked to find a response, but Haringey’s defence were able to deal with any pressure which came their way.

And the hosts rounded off a comfortable first 45 with a third goal when Chinedu McKenzie scored.

The second period was a similar story and Loizou’s men added to their tally when substitute Georgios Aresti found the net.

A late own-goal handed Beckenham a consolation at Coles Park, but Haringey saw out the rest of the game to seal a 4-1 win.

It sets up a second round tie at home to Leyton Orient with a date to be agreed in the near future.
