Chris Hughton felt his Brighton & Hove Albion team deserved their point against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.
The Seagulls fell behind in the 48th minute when Harry Kane broke the deadlock in the Premier League encounter at the AMEX Stadium.
Brighton produced an immediate reply, however, when Serge Aurier fouled Jose Izequierdo inside the area and Pascal Gross slotted home the penalty with 50 on the clock.
It finished 1-1 by the coast and former Spurs player and coach Hughton felt it was a fair result.
He said: “When Tottenham go one up at that stage, most people probably expected them to go on and get a second and a third.
“But the response was quick and I think that helped the confidence in the team. We’re well worthy of the draw that we got.”
The draw hasn’t altered the position of either side though, as Brighton remain 13th in the table and Spurs are still fourth.
Many had noted the point for the hosts means they are essentially safe from relegation now with 18th-placed Southampton six points off them.
Hughton disagrees, however, and that belief may prove to be a positive for Tottenham in the final few weeks of the season.
Brighton are due to host Manchester United on May 4 and visit Liverpool on the final day of the season.
If the Seagulls can take some points off both of Spurs’ top-four rivals, it may aid the Lilywhites chances of finishing third or second.
Asked if Brighton are now safe, Hughton added: “No and only because I can’t afford to think that way.
“Probably the most important thing on my mind now is making sure that we can try and put in the same type of effort and the same type of performance in these last four games.”
