Champions League Group B: Inter Milan 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1

Two late goals helped Inter Milan come from behind to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in Group B of the Champions League and pile more misery on Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs looked on course for a much-needed victory when Christian Eriksen fired them in front, but the hosts hit back in the final five minutes of the match at the San Siro to claim a potentially vital victory on their return to Europe’s elite competition.

After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead in fortuitous circumstances with 53 on the clock.

Eriksen’s first effort was saved by Samir Handanovic and the ball rebounded back to him and his follow up shot took a big deflection and looped over the Inter stopper to make it 1-0 to Tottenham.

Spurs grew in confidence after the goal and could have doubled their advantage, but didn’t and were made to pay in the 85th minute.

Mauro Icardi was left unmarked and produced a sumptuous volley past Michel Vorm to level the scores.

If that was a bitter pill to swallow, worst was to follow on the stroke of full time when Matias Vecino headed home from a corner in the 92nd minute.

The full time whistle followed soon after to hand Tottenham a third consecutive loss under Pochettino – the first time it has happened since he took charge in May 2014.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vorm; Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies; Dembele, Dier; Eriksen, Lamela (Winks 71), Son (Moura 62); Kane © (Rose 89).

Unused substitutes: Gazzaniga, Walker-Peters, Wanyama, Llorente.
