The Spurs right-back and Ivory Coast captain remained an unused substitute as they excited the competition in the quarter-finals
Serge Aurier and Ivory Coast suffered Africa Cup of Nations disappointment on Thursday following a quarter-final exit on penalties to Algeria.
What made things worst for the Tottenham Hotspur defender was the fact he was powerless to stop his country being dumped out of the tournament.
Recovering from a hamstring injury and an issue with his hand, Aurier remained on the bench for the second consecutive game.
He could only look on in frustration when Sofiane Feghouli fired Algeria ahead in the first half, but he also missed a spot-kick to double their lead.
Jonathan Kodjia managed to get Ivory Coast back on level terms and it forced extra-time in Egypt.
No further goals occurred and Aurier was not summoned so had to watch on as the last eight tie was decided by penalties.
It was Algeria who held their nerve, winning 4-3 on spot-kicks to knock Ivory Coast and the Spurs' defender out in the quarter-finals.
