The 24-year-old could be back in the fold for Spurs in around three weeks time

Tottenham have announced that striker Harry Kane has damaged lateral ligaments in his right ankle and is expected back in training next month.

The England forward suffered the problem during Sunday’s 4-1 Premier League win at Bournemouth.

Kane collided with Cherries goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in the first half and after some treatment, he was forced to leave the pitch.

A scan to establish a clearer picture of the full extent of his injury had been delayed because of swelling around the joint, but the club issued a statement this afternoon.

It read: “Preliminary assessments have confirmed that Harry Kane has damaged lateral ligaments in his right ankle.”

Although the forward will miss England’s matches with the Netherlands and Italy, he is set to return in April.

Chelsea away on April Fools Day will almost certainly come too soon, but Stoke City on April 7 looks more likely and the main worry was Kane may miss the rest of the season and the World Cup, but it appears that is not the case.
