To commemorate the Tour de France racing through the borough earlier in the month, Cycling Club Hackney organised a series of Go-Ride Tour events at Hackney Downs in association with British Cycling.

And it was William Green who showed the potential to appear on a future Tour at Saturday’s event after finishing first overall in the Under-12s youth category C class.

He was followed across the line by Mack Mooney and Alessandro Sella, while his brother Serafino Sella won the Under-10 category D race ahead of Reuben Mooney and Elliot Gray.

The event followed on from the final Hackney Primary Schools’ Cycling League of the season on July 11.

Gayhurst School took their fifth title thanks in part to Mercy Phipps’ and Mia Perez’s first and second-place finishes in the Year 4 and 5 three-lap scratch race, ahead of Leila Abbot (Kingsmead School).

Leon Musson-Brown (Kingsmead) took the honours in the Year 4 boys’ scratch, with Milo Endres and Conrad Couzins (Millfields) also on the podium.

Victoria Nkan (Millfields) won the Year 6 girls’ scratch, ahead of Rachel Chimezeri and Shahila Richards (Kingsmead).

Gayhurst enjoyed a clean sweep of podium places in the Year 5 boys’ event, as Stanley Boyd, Tom Bardill and Tahir Suleyman helped their school dominate proceedings.

This was followed by the Year 6 boys’ scratch race won by Harry Gregory (Gayhurst), who was followed across the line by Julio Bernucci and Dylan McNally (Millfields), while in the girls’ Year 4 and 5 Devil race, Perez raced to victory from Kezia Cotterell (Gayhurst) and Abbot.

Couzins claimed the Year 4 boys’ devil, ahead of Robbie de Monchaux-Irons (Gayhurst) and Endres, while Nkan enjoyed another victory in the Year 6 girls’ event and she was followed by Chimezeri and Ashanti Chandler – both from Tyssen.
