Haringey Huskies edged their arch rivals Lee Valley Lions in a 15 goal thriller at Alexandra Palace.

The two teams battled hard with the north London side coming out on top thanks to a late winner from Sam Park.

The Lions got off to a bright start and put themselves 1-0 up after just six minutes when Ben Duffy proved too much for Huskies goalie Jussi Lynch-Grut.

The lead didn’t last long as the hosts equalised just seven second later with Stephen Woodford picking out the top corner over James Andrew’s shoulder.

Halfway through the period, the Lions were back in front as Chris Fox found the back of the net after being allowed to shoot straight off the draw.

Huskies soon responded with Woodford netting his second with a shot from the hash marks.

Sam Park gave the hosts the lead before Oliver Glover equalised for the Lions to make it 3-3.

Duffy then put the Lions ahead again only for winger Daniel Clayton to equalise on a short-handed breakout to end the period at 4-4.

The scoring continued at the start of the second period with Michael Crosse giving Lee Valley the lead, slotting home on the powerplay.

Haringey then lost Joe Berry on a match penalty for head-butting before Perry Whitlock made it 5-5, beaming in a shot from the blue line.

Simon Geldart restored Lions lead prior to Woodford completing his hat-trick, poking the puck home at the second attempt.

Woodford added another right before the break, picking up Stuart Appleby’s cross ice pass and scoring inside the post, giving the Huskies a 7-6 lead going into the final period.

The third period became a little messy as both teams took several penalties – especially Haringey who coughed up a 5-on-3 powerplay which the Lions took advantage of in the 49th minute when Duffy completed his hat-trick with a defected shot.

Huskies had what would turn out to be the last word as Park found the game winning goal, sliding the puck home off a Clayton pass from behind the net.
