Homerton’s Oriance Lungu missed out in her bid for a hat-trick of Haringey Box Cup gold medals, losing the final to Army fighter Alanna Murphy.
Lungu, who had recorded two previous successes in the Alexandra Palace tournament hosted by her club, Haringey Police ABC, was unable to add a third in the Class A Under-64kg.
She overcame another Army boxer – and old rival – Megan Reid, in an all-action semi-final to set up the four-round showdown with Murphy – but the points decision went against Lungu this time.
“She was very strong,” admitted Lungu. “By staying on top of me, she stopped me from throwing my punches.”
There was also disappointment for another of the club’s Homerton-based fighters, Kiev-Del Dyer, who was eliminated in the senior Under-75kg semi-finals.

Dyer triumphed in his quarter-final against Bulmershe ABC’s Nile Henderson, who took two standing counts in the third round before the referee stopped the contest.
In the last four, the Haringey boxer was outworked by Swedish opponent Ahmed Rossi (Naarva ABC) during the first two rounds and, despite a late recovery, it was not enough to edge the decision in his favour.

Jack Farmer was the only one of three Lion ABC representatives to win a bout at Alexandra Palace, overcoming Keane Mahoney (Trojan ABC) in his quarter-final.
Farmer’s extra mobility and hand speed earned him a unanimous decision against his taller opponent, but he was edged out in the semi-final by Conner Fanning (Hall Green BC).
The Lion boxer appeared to take the first round, lose the second and then recover in the third – but he was warned by the referee for punching with the inside of his gloves, which may have swayed the judges in favour of Fanning.
The Hoxton club’s other entrants, Krishan Singh and Billy Underwood, were both defeated on points in their respective quarter-finals.
Pedro ABC’s only representative, Celal Ozturk, was also beaten on a close points decision in his quarter-final against Zac Keating (Essex University).
