Leyton Orient could be without key new signings for the season opener as they face a few injury issues as pre-season concludes.

The O’s are heading to Salford City on Saturday as League Two gets underway but could be missing forwards Harry Smith, Paul Smyth and Aaron Drinan.

However, manager Kenny Jackett is hoping Smyth and Drinan might be pushing for a spot if they can prove they are fully fit ahead of that encounter.

“We have got injury problems. Paul Smyth and Harry Smith, Aaron Drinan is injured as well. We have those three guys out, but that happens during the course of a season,” Jackett said.

“Theo Archibald is just getting over an injury, but he has trained, and had a bright half hour for us so that’s a good development for our front line but we do have players missing.

“They’re not long-term injuries, but they’ll be assessments, and we’ll have to make a decision. Certainly for Paul Smyth and Aaron Drinan. Harry Smith may need another week.”

The former Millwall boss knows Salford will pose a tough test as they are desperate to earn promotion into League One, much like the O’s themselves.

“We have to play them, there's some good sides in the league, we know that and we understand that we have to do everything we can to overcome them,” he added.

Orient have made eight summer signings as Jackett has rebuilt the squad, but he revealed he will continue to assess things as he still might have his eye on one or two more new additions.

“We’ll see. We have a space or two, but we have to keep working with the group that we’ve got, we want to get players back if we can as that will really help us," he said.

“As the month goes on we want to see how the team develops and assess it then.”

Tyrese Omotoye could potentially join the O’s on loan to fill a need with so many injuries up front already, while Theo Archibald joined late last week on loan from Lincoln City.
