Phineas Glover starred with five wickets as in-form London Fields maintained their 100 per cent record in the North East London League with a 54-run win over champions GB Strikers.

The Strikers won the toss and chose to bowl on a seaming track that proved a challenge to both sides.

While GB were without a couple of key players, Fields’ Robin Friend (54) and Steven Dunn (35) took their singles well in the face of tight bowling from the title holders.

Fields reached the break without loss, but then lost wickets at regular intervals due to fine bowling from Zak Bham and Imityas Mulla.

The visitors turned to T20 tactics and big hitting in the later overs by Try Utz (13) and Tom Goodwin (14) allowed London Fields to post a competitive 183 from 40 overs.

In response, the Strikers struggled to get the opening bowlers away, with Imtiyas Dawood (57) the pick of the batsmen, hitting a few lusty boundaries and well-crafted cuts.

Paul Turley continued to build the pressure along with Goodwin, leaving the Strikers struggling to keep the run-rate within sight.

But Glover had other ideas, bowling accurately and generating excellent swing to run through the opposition as his five wickets turned the match in Fields’ favour, with the GB Strikers rolled over for 129 in 35.4 overs.

In the most one-sided game of the season so far, Daman destroyed Tower Hamlets by 172 runs.

Owas Salim (55) and Miyadad Issufmia (33) scored freely against the Hamlets bowling attack as they clocked a respectable 232-9 from the allotted 40 overs.

In response, Tower Hamlets put up a spirited effort to make a game of it but crumbled to 60 all out. Mukhtar Ali Shekh picked up his first five-wicket haul of the season, allowing Daman to collect the points.

In the final game of the day, the Bloody Lads recorded a 51-run win over Baring Up at Springfield Park

Baring, who are still looking for their first win of the season, began brightly as Saif Ahmed ripped through the top order to leave the Lads 58-3.

However, Jack Ensor (40) and Sheldon Greenland (26) produced a strong lower order partnership as the visitors finished on 146 all out.

Requiring 3.65 an over for victory, Baring Up were initially positive in their response but fast bowling from Greenland, who took five wickets, saw the Lads take control.

The Lads have recently increased their fielding sessions to three times a week – and the fruits of their labour were clear to see.

By backing up, stopping easy singles and holding catches, they were able to skittle Baring Up for 95.
