Competition is fierce among the squad at Leyton Orient and most of the players are now fully fit, insists manager Kenny Jackett.

The O’s will travel away to Northampton Town on Saturday as they bid to continue their strong start to the League Two campaign.

Boss Jackett now has options throughout his squad in all positions as they look to remain among the front-runners in the division. The bench has been extremely strong in recent weeks, with just Callum Reilly missing through injury.

“In terms of names I definitely agree, long may it continue, because you’re looking at two games a week now for quite some time," Jackett said. "I enjoy those periods, but we will need all of the squad and all of the players.

“We’re in three competitions still, which at this point is good, and we want to try progressing on all fronts if we can.

“We want that to continue and hold onto that as I do think we’ll need it. The league is our priority, but when the cup games come around we want to keep those going.

“We’re an emerging side, we’ve got emerging players and it will be interesting now to see how they develop and whether they can overcome the next hurdle.

“Whether we’re home or away, if we can keep our appetite and keep a good amount of our players through this winter period, I do think we’ll keep improving as a side.”

Young left-back Jayden Sweeney went to National League side Wealdstone on an initial one-month loan to gain valuable first-team action.

“He needed that, there are two players - in the way that we’re playing at the moment - in Theo Archibald and Connor Wood, ahead of him. He hasn’t done anything wrong but getting games in the National League will be good.

“We’ll watch him closely now and hopefully it proves a good bridge for him coming into our team. You need that as a young player and also for us, young players developing is part of it as they work towards their journey."

The O's might be tempted to send out a few other youngsters on loan, although they've been using the Papa John's Trophy games to hand fringe players or youngsters a chance to shine.
