The Herts Middlesex One outfit, who are holders of the trophy, went into the game full of confidence and ran in seven tries.

It only took 10 minutes for Street to get points on the board, as Gary Hoban marked his return to London rugby going over the line underneath the posts.

With Old Street’s normal kicker Eoin Fitzpatrick missing because of girlfriend duty, Tom Winter took over the kicking duties and calmly converted.

Their second soon followed after some silky play by full-back Josh Parry put Ollie Smalley in. this time the conversion, from a tight angle, was missed.

The third came on the half hour as Ryan Trudgeon rolled back the years with a charge down from a line-out.

Josh Boorman’s clever grubber kick in the second half created space for Harry Marson to score number four and the fifth came after hooker Will Gillgrass threw a wild long pass towards Dougie Lawrence who put boot to ball and outpaced his opposite number to the line.

Finsbury got a deserved try with 11 minutes remaining after good pressure saw them go through the phases to score under the posts which was dutifully converted.

But Streetonians had the last word with some clever thinking by Boorman allowed him to run straight through the opposition defence and score under the posts for a converted try.

Old Street are back in league action this week when they take on UCSOB at Hackney Marshes in their final home fixture of the season.
