Spring Hill club drew 20-20 with Hammersmith & Fulham last weekend
Hackney continue their search for a first win of the season in London Two North West on Saturday when they welcome Enfield Ignatians.
The Spring Hill club began the term last weekend with a 20-20 draw against Hammersmith & Fulham.
The match was scheduled to be an away game for Hackney, but was switched to their home ground owing to issues with the pitch at Hammersmith’s Hurlingham Park.
Ollie Jenner scored an early try for the Spring Hill club that Joe Askham converted, while the scrum-half also added two penalties.
With time running out, though, Hackney found themselves trailing the Hammers by seven points.
Ultan Murphy produced a fine late try for the Spring Hill club, charging down a clearance kick form Hammersmith, before running into score.
Askham successfully converted the try to level the game up and ensure a share of the spoils.
Replacement Rich Mills, meanwhile, was awarded the man of the match award for his efforts for Hackney in the draw.
The Spring Hill club will want to avoid the need for further late heroics on Saturday when they host Enfield.
Ignatians began the term in good form last weekend, easing to a 41-5 victory at home to Grasshoppers.
That is sure to have given them confidence, but Hackney will hope to quash that with a triumph this weekend.
Hackney’s women also remain on the lookout for a first win of the new term after their opening National Championship London & South East One fixture ended 46-12 loss at home to Sutton & Epsom.
Minette Gripenberg scored two tries for the Spring Hill club in defeat, one of which was converted by Kirsten Johnson.
“Playing against a team that was more than skilled enough to be promoted last season highlighted a fair few weaknesses in our game plan,” skipper Lamees Yousif told the club website.
