BG Strikers made it two wins from two, with Altaf Hansa (63) top scoring as the reigning North East London League champions recorded a 91-run win over The Camel.

With temperatures hitting 96 degrees in the shade, it was The Camel who won the toss and elected to bowl – and Richard Hagean and Johnny Williams spent no time in rifling through the top order.

With 84 on the board and four wickets down, the Strikers were saved by Hansa and Zakariya Bham (39) in a heroic partnership that turned the game as 90 came off the final seven overs, with the Strikers eventually posting 266-9.

In reply, a good opening spell from Sulemaan Gajia and Imtiaaz Mulla saw wickets falling in quick succession, with little support provided to the imperious Willif Robinson (57).

Robinson was briefly joined by Tom Porter (22) and then Joe Jarvis (27) but The Camel were eventually bowled out for 175.

Elsewhere, The Bloody Lads kicked off their league campaign in style with an emphatic 188-run victory over Tower Hamlets at London Fields.

After Caius Pawson won the toss for the Lads, Jack Ensor raced to 94, dutifully supported by Ben Boorman (47) and Adam Bennie (27) who helped the away team post 262-7.

In reply, Tower Hamlets could not deal with the heat and crumbled to 74 all out, with Shel Greenland returning the outstanding figures of 8-4-8-1.

At the Millfields Arena, Baring Up fell 30 runs short of Daman’s total of 216, with Enayat Ali (61) playing a star role during his side’s 35 overs.

Despite a flat pitch meaning the score was very reachable, Baring Up failed to turn up and could only post 186. Enayat again chipped in with wickets, meaning Daman got off the mark with their maiden victory in the league.

Bloomsbury Royals found themselves challenging London Fields in one-off conditions due to the Hackney half marathon, and a combination of small boundaries and wayward bowling produced 600 runs, with Fields coming out on top.

They totalled 354-6 in their innings, having been put into bat, with Sam Barret (96), Chris Rice (67 not out), Alec McCrindle (49) and Robin Friend (40) all posting high scores.

In response, the Royals had an early dash, a middle order block and then a late second wind with runs for Bul Bul Kadir (48) at the top and late order runs from Din Islam (40 from just nine balls), but they fell 96 short.
