Epic blues and jazz songs of the 1920s and 30s, by the likes of Duke Ellington, will be sung live at the Hackney Empire in a production exploring relationships.
Sharon D Clarke, Emi Wokoma and Nikki Davis-Jones play three women and Clive Rowe plays a saloon singer, who all spend the night in a cheap hotel during the course of a long memory-filled evening.
Clive Rowe, who is currently in Harold Pinter’s The Hothouse at the Trafalgar Studios in the West End, thinks it will be an “extraordinary evening.”
“It’s basically their stories about working out who they are, their relationships to themselves and to their ex-partners,” he said.
“Until you see the piece you don’t really understand it, the women represent the transitional stages of femininity.”
Tickets for the performances at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Sunday July 14 are priced from £10 to £29.50.
