Bank Holiday round up: gigs, food and parties

The idea of elbowing your way through the Notting Hill Carnival gives you the chills? Fear not, as Hackney and Islington offer plenty of choices to spend the Bank Holiday weekend away from the madding crowd.

Celebrate Carnival and the third Flamingo Pier Party birthday on Saturday. There are two different locations to get the party started in Hackney Wick: a sun-drenched boat rooftop by day and a converted warehouse space, Mick’s Garage, by night, both transformed into party paradises by the Flamingo Pier crew.

Board the Milkfloat, a 90-person boat moored in Hackney Wick with a large grass-covered rooftop, from 3pm to 8pm.

When the sun goes down, the party goes up at Mick’s Garage, just one minute walk from the boat. House duo Session Victim, fresh from releasing their Listen to Your Heart album, is to play a 3-hour set.

If house music is not your cup of tea, The Sebright Arms has got you covered with an all dayer of hardcore, raw rock music on Sunday. The line-up features headliner garage punk Slowcoaches and other bands, such as Luxury Death, Wayde, Honey Joy, and some special guests. Free entry from 12pm.

Double the party, double the fun at The Big Chill House in King’s Cross. The music venue will host the unofficial Adventure Time party on Saturday. Tickets are £5 to enter the Land of Ooo with Jake the dog and Finn the human, protagonists of the cult animated series. It’s adventure time so put that pink gown on.

You can celebrate Carnival with a bottomless brunch on Sunday. Caribbean inspired food and two hours of unlimited Reggae Rum Punch on the lovely south-facing roof terrace, from 1pm to late afternoon. Fear not, as the party will move indoors from 6pm with a special Carnival DJ set.

Celebrate a Sunday night of hip hop, RnB and UK Garage this Bank Holiday with vintage rave art pieces on the wall and the right tunes for the perfect house party.

The Book Club basement will host an exclusive hip hop set by Lenzman, with support from Meltout Crew and Bluewave residents.

After Easter Sunday’s sold out party, Field Day have curated another event with booze, food and catchy tunes to dance to until late at the Shoreditch Yard ton Sunday.
