A selection of actors, singers, dancers and musicians have joined up to produce Legacy, which will run at Hackney Empire on Friday, August 10.

British Colonialism, post-war immigration and Brexit Britain are three key themes explored on stage by Legacy, a piece of musical theatre crafted by some of Hackney Empire company’s brightest performers.

Legacy has been developed over a period of just two weeks, during which time actors, singers, dancers, writers and musicians from Hackney Empire’s company of young artists have combined their skills to tell this innovative story.

The show vows to ‘tell tales from our ancestors and stories for our future’, and it’s due to run this Friday from 7.30pm at Hackney Empire, on Mare Street.

Theatre director Susie McKenna – supported by a team of top professionals – has worked with the young artists as they prepare to bring this new story to the venue’s main stage.

The one-off perfomance is suitable for viewers of all ages (although under-14s will need to come with an adult) and tickets are on offer from £7 or £4 for concessions.

Touching on a wide-ranging spectrum of historical topics, Legacy will tell stories from 1782 when the British Empire spanned 40 countries across the globe and 1946, when immigration from the British colonies soared.

The performance will also re-visit topics that are much fresher in the mind, including Brexit and the Windrush Scandal, and how these events might impact what we leave behind for future generations.

Legacy at Hackney Empire, Friday August 10 at 7.30pm. The show is approximately two hours long. Tickets are £7 for adults and £4 for concessions, and you can find more details here.
