Police have launched an investigation after a young man was fatally stabbed and another hospitalised in east London this morning. 

Officers were called at around 4.30am earlier today (February 11) after the two men took themselves to hospital with stab injuries. 

It was soon established that both men had been stabbed in the area of White Post Lane, Hackney Wick, where a crime scene is currently in place and forensic examination ongoing.

One of the men, aged 26, died of his injuries in hospital. A police spokesperson said officers are in the process of information his family, and that a post-mortem examination and formal identification will be arranged in due course. 

The second man, aged 24, remains in hospital, with officers awaiting a formal assessment of his condition. 

The police spokesperson added an urgent investigation is under way, led by detectives from Specialist Crime and supported by colleagues from the Met’s Central East BCU, though there have been no arrests at this time. 

Mark Gevaux, who runs The Rib Man food stall plus a hot sauce shop, tweeted that when he arrived to set up this morning, he was told the area will be closed off all day.

Kane Pieri also tweeted a video from the scene, adding that there is no access or trains to the area.
