Hackney Wick residents have spoken of their shock after a young man was stabbed to death over the weekend.

Trei Daley, 26, and another man, not named but aged 24, presented themselves at an east London hospital on Saturday morning (February 11) with stab injuries.

Police were called at around 4.30am, with the area around White Post Lane soon identified as the place where the stabbings occurred.

Mr Daley, from Bromley, sadly died in hospital, while the other man was discharged.

A police cordon has been in place since Saturday morning, with police officers and forensics officers on the scene.

Pietro, a chef who lives in Hackney Wick, said he believes the whole of London is dangerous. However, he said he does not find the local area to be particularly bad.

“I normally drink here, and it’s okay,” he said.

Nicola Allen and Eddie Embleton, who also both live locally, added their shock after hearing about Mr Daley’s death, and at the stabbings happening so close.

“I think it’s a nice area,” Eddie said. “I don’t think we have ever seen any trouble.”

Nicola said the pair “often stay around here to go drinking”, adding: “We were going to come out here on Friday.”

Police have launched an urgent investigation, led by DCI Jim Eastwood of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command.

There have been no arrests at this early stage.

DCI Eastwood said: “Firstly, I want to express my most sincere sympathies to Trei’s family. They are being supported by specialist officers, and a dedicated team of detectives will be doing everything possible to bring to justice whoever was responsible for this tragic killing.

“Our enquiries have established that Trei was stabbed near to the Colour Factory nightclub in Queen’s Yard, which is just off White Post Lane in Hackney Wick.

“This area was still busy at around 4am to 4.30am on Saturday morning. Were you there? Did you witness some sort of fight or confrontation? Did you see or hear anything suspicious?”

DCI Eastwood added officers have spoken with a number of people who were in the area, and urges any other witnesses to get in touch.
