A woman has died after her car was involved in a crash with a bus in Hackney.

Metropolitan Police were called to reports of a crash in Lea Bridge Road close to the junction with Clapton Road just before 7am this morning (February 8).

There were reports that a car and a bus had collided in the road.

The woman driving the car was rushed to hospital by London Ambulance Service for treatment.

Earlier this morning, police said that she was in a critical condition but it was later confirmed that she had died from her injuries.

A police spokesperson said that there were no reports that anyone else had been injured in the crash.

Lea Bridge Road is currently shut off to traffic between Chatsworth Road and Lower Clapton Road, while police enquiries continue.

This has forced the detour of bus routes 55, 56, and 308.

Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 quoting reference CAD1388/8Feb.
